From the back cover: The Guerilla Poets began reading poetry on street corners, in subways, in shopping malls, in fast-food joints, in public restrooms, on piers, in stores, and anywhere else where there was an unsuspecting populace, in the fall of 1999. The goal of the Guerilla Poets is to celebrate the outloud art of poetry; paying special attention to the aesthetic beauty of the spoken word. At the same time, we aim not to "knock poetry off its pedestal" but to knock the walls down around poetry... We hope that you will use our poems to bring poetry into the air wherever you work or play, wherever you do your living. We hope that you try reading them out loud, and we hope that you love the feel of them around your tongue and in your ears. We hope you will continue reading other poems out loud. We hope you will write and read your own poems. We hope.
